Dear
femslash10 author,
In all my years in Yuletide, I've never actually been able to finish one of these things. It's weird for me to talk about my preferences, because I feel like whatever you want to do is going to be great because your heart will be in it. So, this is all just guidance, as I hope you already know. And thank you for writing me this fic to begin with. You are wonderful.
Mostly, I like female characters being awesome. I like a good porn scene, but I would much rather see real connections being made between the characters than just something porntastic. Not everything has to have a happy ending, but I do like it when suffering is comforted. I like it when characters are human and make mistakes.
I dislike gratuitous violence, homophobia, racism, historical AUs, kidfics, the usual supernatural offenders (werewolves, vampires, zombies, apocalypses), pontificating on one's beloved, cumbersome string-pulling and handwaving to get X to Y.
I like people basking in sunlight, playing with light and color, textures, noises. I like it when a character's tone of voice colors a narrative in a distinctive way, and I like banter. I like finding significance in small moments. I like magical realism, Heel Face Turns, characters letting each other in on their secret passions, intellectuals, feminists (and other liberal-leaning topics), recurring themes and motifs that spiral through the story, and characters being brave. I like when objects acquire meaning. I like places that are secretly characters.
But most of all, I really love when an author does something they like and that they're good at, because it totally shows in the writing. That's pretty much all I could want.
Community: Britta/Shirley
I love an empowered Britta, like the Britta from the first few episodes of the show. I also love an empowered Shirley, who is world-smart and quick-witted and understanding. Ugh, mostly I just want these women to be awesome together, in any combination or situation at all, and if you wanted to include the (admittedly intimidating) ensemble cast that would be cool, too.
The Good Wife: any combination of Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma, and Diane Lockhart (um. Bonus Boston Legal crossover would not be remiss)
I'm a very casual viewer of this television show, but I like its female characters and would enjoy seeing them in mature, complicated relationships with each other. I really like the sense I get from the show that they are trying to convey that Life Is Complicated and Messy, because that is another one of my most favorite things. Also, I am a huge Boston Legal fan, and appearances from other BL female characters would be cool to see (but only if it would logically fit in the story, of course).
Harry Potter: Hermione/Ginny, Ginny/Luna, and then any femslash relationships involving the following characters: Luna Lovegood, Lily Evans, Prof. McGonagall, Prof. Sprout, Molly Weasley, Madam Rosmerta, Poppy Pompfrey, Petunia Evans
Go nuts! Play in the universe and go nuts. One thing I really love about fics in the Wizarding World is how the magical world appears in the fic. I don't really have a preference for when the fic is set or who is in it (hence all of those options).
Veronica Mars: Veronica/Mac, Mac/Meg, Jackie/Meg
Veronica/Mac is an OTP of mine. I love their verbal sparring and their flirty friendship. They just make me happy being competent and smart together. I'd love to see them tackling mysteries or going on a date or anything.
The West Wing: any combination of Amy Gardner, Abigail Bartlet and C.J. Cregg; Ainsley/anybody, Joey/anybody, Amy/anyone but Donna
Amy is my most favorite TWW character, and I would love to see her get what she wants. I also really like Joey and Ainsley and would gleefully read anything about them. Abigail and C.J. are also HBICs in my mind. Basically, I just love the women of this show.
Special Topics in Calamity Physics: any
This is a crazy longshot, I know, but there is super great potential for femmslash here seeing as how everybody is in love with Blue and/or Hannah and the text itself is rich in vocabulary and dimension and everything.
So that was ridiculously long, but I hope it was also helpful! I put a lot there to give you a lot to choose from, and I just want you to have fun and write something you love. I can't imagine you would want to hear more from me, but if you do, please feel free to comment anonymously on this and ask away. Okay! So, awesome. Awesome! I am so excited, because I am certain this is going to be amazing. I hope this didn't come too late, mystery author, and I know I will love your story.
